Hofstra University is a private university founded in 1935. Named Hofstra because of the location where the university campus is standing is the estate of a Dutch immigrant who is also a timber baron, William S Hofstra. Although at the beginning of this university established an extension of New York University, but now no longer connected to NYU. The university is located in the Village of Hempstead, New York, USA.

Through the school, including Lawrence Herbert School of Communication, Maurice A. Deane School of Law, Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, School of Education, Frank G. Zarb School of Business, and the College of Arts & Sciences, the university offers various majors fields of study with various degree programs. And to develop and meet the demand of students, in the year 2011, the university was officially founded the School of Medicine, and in 2012 also founded the school of engineering and applied sciences.

Meanwhile, recently, the university adopted a policy of separating between the School of Education and Health Sciences and Human Services into two schools each.

Own pride occurs when the university in 2008 and 2012, wherein the second year, the university campus has been chosen to host the United States Presidential Election Debates. Not only that, the university also has its own radio station, which is named WRHU, which is one of the top student-run stations in the nation.

Not only provide the learning process alone, the university also has provided a variety of organizations and sororities, as a place to channel the talents and aspirations of students in the organization. Noted, this university has a thriving Greek Life scene and offers more than 20 active fraternities and sororities.

As generally every university that has a tradition, the university also has an annual tradition that has always held by members of the university, such as an annual Shakespeare festival, a tradition that dates back to 1950. Where in the tradition, students perform one of Shakespeare's 26 plays in the school's replica of the Globe Theater.

Because the university is one of the world's top universities, it is no wonder if many alumni of this university is a world famous figures who have also been successful in their respective fields. Included among them are actors James Caan and Christopher Walken, as well as Bernie Madoff, the convicted investors.

And from non-academic fields, especially sports, the university also has provided approximately 17 inter-university sports teams, as a place for students to develop their talents and demonstrate achievement. With Hofstra mascot, dubbed the "Pride", the university sports teams compete with other universities in the NCAA Division I level of competition in the Colonial Athletic Association.
