University founded in 1965, stands in a former airfield, a single building, which was dubbed the Ivory Tower. Currently, Florida International University has developed rapidly and become one of the largest universities in America with more than 11,000 annual graduates. Through college and school, including the College of Business Administration, College of Education, College of Law, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, Robert Stempel School of Public Health and Social Work, College of Architecture and Arts, and Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Florida International University offers a wide range of majors studies with different degree programs in it.

As one of the leading research universities in America, even in the world, especially in the field of hurricane mitigation, Florida International University has established a 12-fan Wall of Wind that simulates a Category 5 hurricane to aid in higher wind speed testing.

With the university campus of 344-acre, and to facilitate access for the students, the university offers two separate shuttle bus services, one the which runs between University Park and the Engineering Center and one the which operates between University Park and the Biscayne Bay Campus.

There are some activities or traditions which are always held by members of the university. For example, in every summer prior to the fall term, Florida International University hosts Panther Camp for incoming freshmen, where they spend a week at a retreat center learning all of the schools cheers, chants and traditions and how to be a successful student leader. In addition, for students who will face the test and that have good luck on the test, they spin the large cube in front of the Deuxième Maison.

Florida International University has sports teams, known as the mascot nicknamed is Roary the Panther. With the pride mascot, they compete sports teams from other universities in the NCAA Division I athletics competition, which also is a member of Conference USA.
