Newman University is a private university located in the foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains, Jefferson City. University founded in 1880, the Baptist-affiliated liberal arts university with 18 honor societies.
University was originally named Carson College, have separate facilities for female education student, by the name of William Cate Newman. And in 1889, two university colleges are combined into one of the first coeducational institutions in the southern region.
The University offers a variety of programs majors with undergraduate and graduate degrees. Among the 50 majors, nine graduate degree, as well as a new (and first) doctoral program in educational leadership.
And in the last 2012-2013 years, through a strong partnership relationship with the US Army ROTC, the college is the regional leader and second Nationally, in supplying nurses to the US military.
The University has a social program in terms of helping the poor in the area, the Appalachian Outreach. With the support of social media such as Facebook, the program is placed 35th on the list of over 300 Organizations throughout the country and was awarded a $ 20,000 grant from Walmart's "Fighting Against Hunger" national campaign.
In addition to studying and joined various organizations and
sororities that have been provided by the university, with a mascot named Jets, students at this university could also achievement through sports, followed by the varsity team in NCAA competition.
