The University was founded in 1834 by the Cumberland Presbyterians as the Cane Hill School. Until now, the oldest university in Arkansas is still affiliated with the Presbyterian Church.In 1875, the university became the first school in Arkansas who admitted female students. And in 1959, the University of the Ozarks Became the first historically white colleges in Arkansas to an African-American graduate student. Whereas in 1971, the University of the Ozarks Became the first college in the nation to establish a program for undergrads with learning disabilities.Through college and school-owned, University of the Ozarks offers 29 major programs of study ranging from Accounting, Art, Business Administration, Business Education, Economics, Early Childhood Education, Environmental Studies, History, History and Literature, Music to General Business .According to the university, students who study at the University of the Ozarks is derived from a variety of different backgrounds, ranging from religion, skin color, language, country and other differences. However, the difference was all not be an obstacle to the life and activities of all members of the university, as the University of the Ozarks is not familiar with the term discrimination and uphold human values.A tradition that is applicable in this university are routinely always held by all members of the university is Study Night Breakfast, is a popular tradition in the which faculty and staff serve students a late-night breakfast at the start of finals week.Of non-academic activities, especially sports, the University of the Ozarks has a university sports teams are known as the mascot, dubbed the Eagle. The Eagle competes athletically at the NCAA Division III level with nine varsity teams in the American Southwest Conference.
