Profileuniversity.com - James Madison University is a public university located in Harrisonburg, Virginia, United States, precisely in the Shenandoah Valley, the campus quadrangle located at South Main Street in Harrisonburg. The University was founded in 1908 which originally was a women's college before becoming a teacher's college and then a major coeducational university. Named of James Madison to honor President James Madison.

Through its academic departments, including the College of Arts and Literature, College of Business, College of Education, Faculty of Health and Behavior Studies, College of Integrated Science and Engineering, College of Science and Mathematics, College of Visual and Performing Arts, and The Graduate School, James Madison University offers 71 undergraduate degrees, 34 master's degrees and doctoral programs and educational specialist.


Since its establishment until now, James Madison University has undergone many developments in various aspects, ranging from the education system to support the implementation of the education building. There are 148 buildings on the campus of this university, 34 of them are residential campus or student dormitories.


And at the age of more than one century, James Madison University has undergone a change of president of the university as much as six times. Currently, the university has an official school colors of purple and gold is headed by president Jonathan R. Alger. And the school colors can be traced to the colors used by the school's two literary societies in 1909.


In addition to providing and provide a wide range of academic activities, through organizations and associations of students, James Madison University also provides a wide range of non-academic activities. There are about 350 groups and clubs at the university campus.


And one of the active and popular clubs are much in demand by students at this university is athletic activities. James Madison University has several varsity sports teams are comprised of a team of men and women's teams are known as the mascot, nicknamed Duke Dog, which competes with sports teams from other universities in the NCAA Division I athletic competition.


Of these athletic activities, the last year of James Madison University successfully created history with won their first NCAA basketball tournament game in 30 years.
